Following a sell-out season at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, this turbocharged show lights up the Barbican over summer: ‘Forget everything you know about Evita: this one properly rocks’ (Time Out).

From a life of poverty to spiritual leader of the nation, Eva Perón was loved, hated, derided and venerated. Dividing the Argentinian people with her patriotic speeches, her ambition, glamour and magnetism transformed her into one of the world’s first major political celebrities.

Jamie Lloyd reinvents Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s iconic musical, its chart-topping score including ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’, ‘Oh What A Circus’, ‘Another Suitcase in Another Hall’ and ‘You Must Love Me’ – the winner of an Oscar for Best Original Song.

Content

Strobe lighting and flashing lights are used several times during the performance. Contains jarring loud noises, fire, and theatrical smoke.

Special notes

A post-show talk will be held on Tuesday, 21 July that is free of charge for same-day ticket holders.

Access

Captioned performance on Tuesday, 4 August. Audi-described performance with Touch Tour at 6.30pm on Tuesday, 11 August.

Loved the show. It was a reminder of how terrific the music and lyrics are, how wide ranging in emotion and scope; and the cast did a wonderful job of bringing it all to life. Excellent staging, set and costumes too - overall a very worthy 5 stars.

Janet Farrow

Excellent, Evita was brilliant actor and the singing was beautiful especially in the second half. Che was also brilliant all the way through.

Great show, Excellent evening and amazing talent, only minor comment would be that the music on occasions seemed to overshadow voices.

REVIEW: Evita (in exactly 250 words)

Evita. It takes a while to get into but, once you do, it's compelling, thought-provoking and (of course) strung together by an iconic Lloyd-Webber score. If you're a fan of musicals like Sunset Boulevard, then you either already know, and love Evita, or you will do after seeing this production.
