Brilliant! Simon Callow was marvellous and the direction could not have been bettered
My first time at this beautiful theatre. A tour de force by Simon Callow.
A difficult job for one actor to entertain an audience single-handed for 1.5 hours, and appreciate that volume of delivery was probably used for interest etc. However, Simon Callow was often difficult to hear, despite the fact that we were sitting towards the front of the theatre. Obviously, this detracts from the enjoyment of the performance. Otherwise, enjoyable.
1 man reciting a letter for 90 minutes, crossing all emotions and depicting the path of love to loss. A different sort of theatre and worth the time and effort.
I thought De Profundis was extremely well done - although I saw a more theatrical production in Montreal - where it started by the slamming of a prison door, Oscar Wilde was in prison stripes, we were at the back of the stage, the auditorium was for used for speaking of his plays... it was more theatrical than last night's performance. This said, I did very much enjoy it.
Brilliant characterisation of Oscar Wilde at his lowest and most vulnerable moments by Simon Callow. This is a wonderful experience and truly brings these letters to life. All pluses and no minuses. Thank you for a great experience.
